An Introduction to Montevalle
Welcome to Montevalle of Scotts Valley, Inc., a 55/45+ age residential community tucked into the forested hillsides on the outskirts of Scotts Valley, California, seven miles north of Santa Cruz on Highway 17. Though it is just a short walk (along Bluebonnet Drive) from the heart of city life teeming with retail shops, grocery stores, restaurants, drugstores, the Scotts Valley Senior Center, a post office, a movie theatre, and commercial centers offering medical, dental, legal and other professional services, Montevalle itself remains a quiet, splendid garden hidden in the Santa Cruz Mountains.
Montevalle’s 44-acre terrain is varied with hills, valleys, meadows, streams and lakes. The grounds flaunt mature gnarled oaks, Ponderosa pines and redwoods, and lush vegetation. Deck views of the surrounding mountains and canyons are commonplace throughout Montevalle. Because the homes are creatively inserted to appear as natural outcroppings of the hilly landscape, residents are afforded a natural sense of privacy. However, the Park’s facilities for recreation, hobbies and social activities are abundant. Homeowners can select their balance between privacy and social activity.[1]
Montevalle consists of 220 properties, common areas, and many amenities. Each homeowner owns their home and their land, as well as 1/220th of the common area. Many of the newer units are modern manufactured (factory-built) homes installed on permanent foundations. Montevalle’s amenities, funded by homeowners’ dues, include two swimming pools, spas, and saunas, a shuffleboard court, a putting green, a horseshoe pit, two lakes teeming with wildlife, a gym with state–of–the–art exercise equipment, a recreation room, a pottery room, redwood grove picnic area, a Lodge with two bedrooms that may be rented for guests, and last but not least, a large community hall (informally called “The Mill,” with its working water wheel) where social events and meetings are held.
Montevalle is an active community. Many residents participate in community-wide activities and events held throughout the year. Some join one or more clubs to enjoy arts and crafts, cooking and activities of all types. Some become members of a committee that support Montevalle’s operations; some attend community-wide meetings of one type or another to stay informed about current events within Montevalle. Each property is assessed a regular monthly dues that is used for the maintenance and operation of Montevalle.
